I recently went to a bitcoin meet-up in Bedford, Indiana. A couple came who had moved to Bloomington, Indiana, in the last year from China, where they had lived for the previous 8 years.
The woman talked about how scared she was at first to walk around in America without the CCTV. If there wasn’t a camera recording, she felt, what was to deter someone from committing a crime against her? Who would protect her? Any time she had to walk down a less populated street or a bike trail, she was terrified that someone would rush up and assault her.
We all laughed at how silly she was. She laughed as she told the story.
As I left the meeting, before I walked out the door, I checked to be sure that my phone was in my pocket, twice.
